Problem: as a
corporate or government entity you possess a vast store of information
stored in various medium. Videos and audio programs stored on tapes,
written information stored on paper documents, seminars that need to be
conducted in person, training sessions etc. This information needs to be
distributed to various people. In today’s digital economy, this flow of
information has become the lifeblood of companies. It has become
critical that relevant information reach the appropriate people within
an appropriate time-frame.
For some businesses, social services organizations for example,
dissemination of information is one of their critical core functions.
Inherent within the mandate of any social service organization, for
example, is the dissemination of information to it’s constituents.
Videos need to be viewed, audio tapes listened to, pamphlets need to be
read. It is this task, of getting information to the people who need it,
that INFO-MATRIX addresses.
The Solution: INFO-MATRIX
The INFO-MATRIX system was developed to facilitate the distribution of
multi-media content and other types of information via a computer
network. While the system will focus primarily on the storage and
distribution of multi-media related content it is by no means limited to
only that type of content. INFO-MATRIX can be utilized in a variety of
scenarios: training, multi-media announcements/news distribution,
general information dissemination. The system will provide the following
capabilities in it’s basic configuration:
Capture any existing
video content (VHS, TV, DVD)
Catalog them in a
real-time SQL database
Storing them in multiple
formats on a streaming media server
Allow access to the
content via a web browser by accessing a INFO-MATRIX enabled website
The basic INFO-MATRIX system can be enhanced via the following
extensions:
Computer screens capture
+ audio (for instructional purposes)
Audio content
distribution
Paper documents
distribution
Usage tracking and
reporting
User definable reports
Content replication for
large systems
Users authentication and
content security
The INFO-MATRIX concept
was envisioned to fulfill one of the critical requirements of any Social
Services organization: The timely and effective dissemination of
information — all types of information. Information can be stored in
different mediums, for example the same information could be provided on
paper, audio tape, video tape, PowerPoint presentation, screen captures,
a website etc. Regardless of the medium the information is stored in,
getting it to the right people at the right time is of critical
importance. With the increasing popularity of the Internet and it’s
associated technologies it is now feasible to design a system that could
assist in this regard.
INFO-MATRIX lays the foundation for such a system. All videos currently
kept in video tape format can be converted and stored on the system in
Streaming Media format. Potential users will then be able to search a
database for these videos and then view them at their own convenience.
The system will allow the user to select either low-resolution or
high-resolution formats depending on the network they access the system
from. This is necessary to accommodate Internet and WAN users who will
have not have the same band-width access as users on the a high speed
LAN.
Additionally, INFO-MATRIX will also provide an API (Application
Programming Interface) to allow any website to interface and become an
INFO-MATRIX enabled site. A test site will be provided as part of the
INFO-MATRIX system but we envision that most organization will utilize
the API to enhance their existing websites with the INFO-MATRIX
functionality.
Looking ahead… Ultimately, INFO-MATRIX will utilize XML to provide
formatted information to not only endusers but also to other Social
Services IT systems. Nex is building INFO-MATRIX on the next generation
of Internet software technology to insure that your IT investment today
will be around tomorrow.
NOTE: The
INFO-MATRIX system is a generic multi-media information distribution
framework that must be customized for each individual implementation.
This customization is included in the implementation cost estimate for
each project..
